Doubly curved concrete roof complete
Together with industry partners, researchers at ETH Zurich have developed new construction methods for building a doubly curved concrete roof. Now it is complete and under the open sky for the first time.
In collaboration with partners from the construction industry, researchers from the Block Research Group (BRG) at ETH Zurich have now completed the complex, doubly curved concrete roof for the HiLo unit in the NEST building. NEST is an Empa and Eawag research platform that provides space for testing new building technologies in practice. The expressive shell structure demonstrates how high (Hi) performance can be achieved with low (Lo) embodied emissions by combining efficient concrete structures with novel fabrication and construction methods.
