Bones respond positively to external forces

Researchers aim to use vibrations to stimulate bone growth. Now, a new study paves the way for developing new therapies that may one day benefit patients suffering from bone fractures and age-related bone loss.

Person lifts a weight with one arm and the bones that are loaded are marked.
Cells in bones respond to external forces, and researchers aim to put this effect to use. Unlike in this image, the focus of this research is on vibration therapy.  (Image: Lauren Kaylor / Adobe Stock)
