Residence permit after graduation for job seeking purposes
If you have been granted a short-term residence permit for job-seeking purposes, the same restrictions on gainful employment apply as during a normal study semester.
Usually a short-term residence permit L permit is granted.
Non-EU/EFTA citizens
If you have completed your studies at ETH and your current residence permit is still valid, you can stay in Switzerland until the valid residence permit expires.
You can extend your residence permit for a maximum of 6 months for job-seeking purposes. As before, apply for your new residence permit before the current permit expires. Please note that the 6 months are granted from the date of graduation (not from the expiry date of your residence permit!). If, for example, you have already graduated 3 months ago, you can only receive a 3-month extension.
Documents required when applying for a residence permit for job-seeking purposes
You must submit the same documents as for previous renewals of your residence permit, except for the following:
- Instead of the "extended confirmation of matriculation", submit a copy of your diploma. If you have not yet received your diploma, submit instead a letter from your degree programme confirming the successful completion of your studies with a binding date.
- As financial proof, the amount of CHF 10,500 in your bank account is sufficient for a 6-month extension.
- Please specify on the extension form that the extension is for job-seeking purposes.
