Funding MOOC projects temporarily on hold

On 28 June 2022, the Rector decided, on the recommendation of the Teaching Commission, that the funding of MOOCs through Innovedum will be temporarily discontinued. The main reason for this is the takeover of the non-profit organisation edx.org by the commercial operator 2U.com. At the same time, the Rector has instructed the LET to develop a new strategy for MOOCs at ETH by the end of 2022.

Ongoing MOOC projects will be completed. Through your MOOC project you can still broadcast your course around the globe via external pagewww.edx.org, which makes MOOCs available to interested students and experts worldwide. ETH students, inspired by international exchange, bring new perspectives with them to lectures

The submission of blended learning projects is still possible and welcomed!

Information for ongoing MOOC projects

MOOCs are open to all who wish to keep up with state-of-the-art research in science and technology. MOOCs are oriented towards ETH’s thematic focus areas and are also very useful for ETH students. For example, they serve as a learning resource, or are offered as separate courses for ETH students. If ETH students take an active part in a global MOOC in the framework of an ETH course this is termed a “hybrid MOOC”; here ETH students profit from exchanges with international participants, and vice versa.

Members of other Swiss universities can also access further online courses on our Moodle platform.

Prof. Felix Kienast on his experience with the ?external pageLandscape Ecology?:

?I had a very positive experience with the MOOC. One joins a group of highly motivated international students and doctoral students who disseminate what they learn in their own countries and publicise the discipline. My students became aware of the international reach of themes through interaction with international students.?
