Design Overview
The design builds upon the ETH Zurich corporate design. On this page, you will find how to use the ETH Competence Framework to promote teaching.
You can use the ETH Competence Framework design for many purposes:
- Promote competence-oriented teaching: The textual framework can help promote competence-oriented teaching in your department or unit. Display the ETH Competence Framework as a poster at your department's entrance or in your office, or include a short version in a brochure to hand out at information or onboarding events with students or colleagues. This way, you can help others familiarise themselves with the competencies and ETH's teaching culture.
- Highlight your own contribution to competence development: You can also use the graphic framework to highlight how your course, degree programme, or unit contributes to developing the students' competencies. For example, you can display the ETH Competence Framework on the homepage of the degree programme or in an introductory slide or brochure first, then show how students can find these competencies (or domains) in the curriculum. You can also use the framework in your course's slides to highlight the competencies supported by your course's learning objectives and materials.
- Enhance discussions on competence development: You can use the competencies icons to facilitate the discussion on specific competencies in your team or department, for example, by creating flashcards, posters, or flipcharts.
- Engage the student and alumni community: You can also use the graphic framework in goodies to represent your programme's core outcomes (e.g., by displaying the core competencies fostered in the degree programme). Students or alumni will then use these gadgets (e.g., pins, magnets, stickers, t-shirts, mugs) in their daily activities, developing a stronger sense of belonging to your degree programme.
