Digital Platform

Digital Platform

ETH Zurich presents an interactive platform that invites visitors to take a playful journey, while critically reflecting on the Digital Age and how it transforms our lives.

Navigating Complex Issues
As a leading university advancing science, technology, and engineering, ETH Zurich takes on the ethical debates surrounding the Digital Age. While the next generation of “digital natives” might regard the new technologies and data transparency as the “seamless backbone of society,” this generation is dealing with a tsunami. Information flows in at an alarming rate, and the receding wave presents a risk to personal safety and privacy. The Digital Platform fosters discussion and learning surrounding the important ethical principles of digital transformation. It highlights both complexity and connections, while providing an interactive playground to explore questions, ideas, and solutions.

Design and Construction
Inspired by neural networks the platform – a technological feat in and of itself - facilitates visual connections between ideas. An elevated metal construction with transparent glass plates allows the platform to operate as an interactive showcase. Built-in sensors, under the glass, enable an interactive experience. When visitors step onto a pre-programmed design element, customized content appears on the elevated screen serving as a backdrop.

The Digital Platform will be shown from 13 until 15 September 2018 at the external page Schiffbau venue.
