The director's staff manages the director's business and acts as an interface to the individual areas within the ETH Library, ETH Zurich, the Swiss university landscape and the library science scene. The staff support the director in preparing the content of his meetings, write reports and position papers and sit on various committees. Furthermore, the director's staff are responsible for organising strategy development and library evaluation and thus thoroughly review the implementation status of strategy and evaluation results. The staff are responsible for preparing and following up the library's divisional meetings (ALB) and support the director in conceptual work. Furthermore, the staff act as coordinators of clearly defined, current topics within the ETH Library, which are anchored in various sections and regularly report to the ALB on the status of work and current developments on these topics.

The directorate staff is headed by Dr. Rafael Ball.
