Open your eyes: Photo festival 2023
Welcome to open your eyes, where world-class science meets world-class photography to create a unique and inspiring experience. Between 8 September and 15 October 2023, the city of Zurich transforms into an open-air exhibition about the 17 SDGs.
ETH Zurich proudly stands as the scientific partner of the "open your eyes" photo festival, and contributed around 50 projects and solutions from its universe of science and innovation to the visual spectacle. Each project aligns with at least one of the SDGs, a collection of goals which encompass environmental, social, and economic dimensions, uniting all nations to solve our world's challenges collaboratively.

Stop. Think. Feel. Act.
The aim is for the visitors to be captivated by the beauty of the artworks, to connect to their true emotions about the state of the world, to reach personal insights, and to engage in collective discussions about sustainable development. The photographic works presented are not to be understood as illustrations of the SDGs, but as comments and annotations which should spark inspiration and emotions.
For a comprehensive description of all projects, including facts and context on each SDG, you can download Download the 140-page exhibition catalog (PDF, 20.8 MB). The catalog also includes an honest and thought-provoking interview with ETH Zurich's rector Prof. Dr. Günther Dissentori (in German; see page 20).
Exhibition route
The festival unfolds in 17 theme islands along Zurich's historic landmarks and lakeside. There is a city route starting at ETH Polyterrace, or a lake route starting at General Guisan Quai.
