Fixed-rate salaries
Doctoral students, postdocs and scientific assistants are usually hired by ETH Zurich on fixed-rate salaries.
Lump-sum salaries can be agreed on in exceptional cases and depending on the requirements of the funding sources. The funding provider and/or the project budget determines the salary amount indicated in your employment contract.
Doctoral students
Fixed-rate salaries for doctoral students are based on one of the following compensation schemes (standard, scheme 2, 3, 4 or 5) and is clearly stated in your employment contract. Increases to your salary occur annually until the third year in the steps specified in your compensation scheme. No additional increases are made from the fourth year on.

Scientific assistant I
The fixed-rate salary for scientific assistants I is based on the overview below. These salaries are automatically increased in the specified steps until the third year. From the fourth year onwards, you will no longer receive any salary increases.

The fixed-rate salary for postdoctoral researchers and scientific assistants II is based on the overview below. These salaries are automatically increased in the specified steps until the third year. From the fourth year onwards, you will no longer receive any salary increases.
