Beware of thieves
The Safety, Security, Health and Environment (SSHE) department is reminding people to protect their valuables against third-party access. Thefts are costly and inconvenient, but in many cases they can be prevented.
During 2015, 69 cases of theft were recorded at ETH Zurich, involving both private property and ETH property. For this reason, the Safety, Security, Health and Environment (SSHE) department is reminding people of the importance of protecting valuables from third-party access – for example, do not leave a wallet on a desk or on a canteen tray. Closed doors and windows, too, can help to make a thief’s life harder. Thefts are costly and inconvenient, but in many cases they can be prevented.
If, despite taking all necessary security measures, a theft occurs, ETH members are encouraged to report the offence to SSHE as soon as possible. This will allow us to take appropriate measures quickly; for example, in the event that a series of thefts occurs within a particular building area.
SSHE is also happy to carry out awareness-raising measures and security assessments for members of ETH on-site.
