GESS Library extends its opening hours and moves towards an open-library model

The facilities at the GESS Library are now also available to use from 5.00 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Since mid-February, it has also been possible to access the GESS Library in the early evening. You can do so via the door to the right of the main entrance using your ETH card.

Please take note of the following:

  • There are no library staff on site after 5.00 p.m. (open library). If you have any questions, please call the InfoCenter in the ETH main building (ETH internal: 22135; external: +41 44 632 21 35).
  • Books from the open-access area can also be borrowed during the unsupervised period using the self-service lending machine. As before, pre-ordered media can only be collected during working hours between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.
  • Please vacate the library by 8.30 p.m. at the latest, as this is when the building closes. The lights will be switched off automatically on both floors.
  • Please do not use your ETH card to let other people in when you enter the GESS Library.

The GESS Library is currently being refurbished. Two sofas have been positioned on the ground floor to give visitors a place to relax. Additional study spaces have also been set up and equipped with partition walls to ensure visitors are able to concentrate. However, there is still renovation work to be done; for example, an acoustic panel will be added to the sofa corner and new reading lamps will be installed in the study spaces.

All in all, a lot has changed at the GESS Library – come by and take a look!
