What should we do if there is a medical emergency in our immediate vicinity, a fire breaks out, or we witness violence against third parties or are directly affected by it? General information can be found on the Safety, Security, Health and Environment (SSHE) website.
Evacuation
In exceptional situations, it may be necessary to evacuate a building. Do you know what to do, where the assembly point is and who will support you? You can find information on how to behave during an evacuation and where the assembly point for the area or building is located on the SGU pages.
Notifying users
In the event of an evacuation, information is provided through various channels, for example by email, landline call or text message to a mobile phone. To receive notifications on your mobile phone, your mobile number must be registered for emergency alerting at www.adressen.ethz.ch.
Thank you for helping to ensure safety and security at ETH with your behavior.
Smart alerting solutions for dynamic working environments
As part of a CAS project, the perception of alarms based on “human factors” was analyzed. Important insights were gained, in particular from a survey conducted in two departments and parts of the “central bodies”. Among other things, the survey included questions on the use of mobile devices in different work environments, but also on how alarms in laboratories or workshops are most quickly or effectively noticed by the users in person.
One of the results from the project work is that in the new world of work, in which home offices and flexible workplaces are firmly established, alerting solutions must also become more agile. Solutions include, for example, push messages on mobile devices or georeferenced alarms. For certain uses, such as laboratories or workshops, location-based solutions must be preserved.
The findings from the project work form an important basis for the discussion about future alerting solutions at ETH Zurich. In the coming months, the replacement of alerting solutions due to expiring contracts will be examined and analyzed in detail.
