Service level adjustments
Cost-cutting measures at ETH Zurich have resulted in adjustments to the service level in the area of cleaning and maintenance.
As part of ETH Zurich's cost-cutting measures, the budget of the Facility Services department has been reduced. In some cases, the necessary savings could not be realised in any other way than by adjusting the service level.
Despite these adjustments, the Facility Services department and its external service providers are doing their best to keep ETH buildings and sites clean, well-maintained and functional. The safety and functionality of ETH facilities will remain guaranteed.
Overview of adjustments
Cleaning
Service level reduced by 50 percent for the following room groups:
- Offices / meeting rooms / workshops -> down to every two weeks
- Recreation and first-aid rooms with low frequency -> down to every two weeks
- Storage / archive / ancillary rooms -> down to twice a year
- Corridors, stairs and lifts with high frequency as well as foyers / entrance halls / vestibules -> down to twice a week
- Corridors, stairs and lifts with low frequency -> down to every two weeks
For all other room groups such as lecture theatres, seminar rooms, laboratories, public workstations, toilets and showers, the service level will not be reduced for the time being.
Maintenance
- Situational reduction of the service level for non-safety-relevant facilities and minor repairs.
- Where possible, a switch will be made from preventive / time-controlled maintenance to condition-based maintenance.
Effects on personnel
The reduction in the service level is accompanied by a slight reduction in personnel at ETH. This will be offset by natural departures, i.e. some vacant positions will no longer be filled.
ETH Zurich has no influence on the personnel decisions of external service providers.
