Academic project and time management: from planning to publishing

• Project management: methods and tools, agile planning, identifying risks, rough planning of your research and writing project.
• Time and self-management: motivation, avoiding procrastination.
• Communication: identifying stakeholders, receiving support.
• Sprint 1 (on-?site): Together, we will explore the foundations of project management and time management. You will get to know tools and methods.
• Sprint 2 (homework): With the tips and tools you have learned, you will move from rough to detailed planning, define tasks and milestones. You will use this to develop a concept for your project.
• Sprint 3 (on-?site): Working in peer groups, you will present your concepts and compare, discuss and reflect on them. You will gain an overview of the stakeholders and risks of your current project. There is enough time to address areas of uncertainty.

By the end of the course, you are able to

• apply the methods and tools that you need to define milestones and plan the next steps in your thesis or text,
• develop solutions to minimise risks and gain confidence in tackling your research and writing project,
• communicate more effectively with your stakeholders

This course consists of two on-site modules (Sprint 1 and 3), which take place two weeks apart, with a homework module in between. During both on-site modules, you will have the opportunity to discuss your own project with the course leaders and your peers, reflect and work on planning your project. Sprint 1 focuses on theory. In Sprint 2, you can take what you have learned, apply it to your project and gain some initial experience. During Sprint 3, the primary focus is on discussions with your peers and receiving coaching from the course leaders.
