Teaching Assignments
The issuing of teaching assignments and remuneration of lecturers at ETH Zurich are specified in the Directives on the issuing of teaching assignments and remuneration of lecturers at ETH Zurich (in German) (PDF, 42 KB) of 17.06.2008 (01.02.2013 version).
Lecturers are persons who teach independently at ETH Zurich, but who are not professors or senior lecturers.
ETH Zurich differentiates between ?internal” and “external” lecturers:
Internal lecturers are employed at ETH Zurich, at one of the ETH domain research institutes, joint ETHZ-UZH institutes or at EPFL. Internal lecturers are not entitled to any remuneration.
External lecturers do not have a formal employment contract with ETH. Instead, they conclude a part-time work contract with ETH and are either entitled to lecturer fees or hold their lectures free of charge.
Exception: Senior lecturers who are neither employed at ETH nor within the ETH domain require a teaching assignment in order to receive a renumeration. They are considered as external lecturers.
New lecturers must be registered at the Room and Course Scheduling Office. The completed Download Teaching assignment application form (PDF, 1.6 MB) must be sent directly to our office by the schedule coordinator of the appropriate department.
UZH Lecturers
UZH lecturers must not be registered for a teaching assignment if the course in question is listed in the UZH and ETH Zurich course catalogue.
If, however, the course is only run by ETH Zurich, UZH lecturers must have a teaching assignment. They are then considered as “external lecturers".
Please use the Download Application form for University of Zurich and EPFL lecturers (PDF, 1.3 MB) for the registration of UZH lecturers.
