Fellows elected to Collegium Helveticum
The Collegium Helveticum's Board of Trustees has elected seven professors as fellows.
At its session on 12 July 2016, the Collegium Helveticum's Board of Trustees appointed fellows for its next term, which will last from 1 October 2016 to the end of 2020 and focus on the theme of digital societies. From the 26 first-class applications they received, the Board selected seven professors from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), University of Zurich (UZH) and Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
This is the first time that the Zurich University of the Arts, an affiliate of the Collegium since 1 August 2016, has contributed a fellow.
The seven fellows of the Collegium Helveticum for the period 2016–2020 are:
Prof. Nikola Biller-Andorno, UZH, biomedical ethics
Prof. Monika Dommann, UZH, modern history
Prof. David Gugerli, ETH Zurich, history of technology
Prof. Petros Koumoutsakos, ETH Zurich, computational science
Prof. Mike Martin, UZH, gerontopsychology
Prof. Hannes Rickli, ZHdK, contemporary art
Prof. Renate Schubert, ETH Zurich, economics
The seven fellows will continue to hold their professorships and other positions at their respective universities throughout the entire four-year fellowship, but are relieved of 20% of their workload to enable them to conduct research at the Collegium.
This long-term part-time fellowship programme – the only one of its kind in academia – promotes an intensified knowledge exchange between the Collegium Helveticum and its three affiliate universities, both on a faculty and departmental level.
The fellows’ long-term commitment over four years also makes it possible to plan and implement collaborative interdisciplinary research projects at the Collegium Helveticum.
