Last spring, the new Respect programme was launched at ETH Zurich (see Internal News, 5 March 2024). Its name ‘Respect - Reflect - Respond’ expresses both the attitude that underlies value-based collaboration and the shared responsibility of all ETH members to actively shape it. In the spring and autumn semesters, compact courses are offered to deepen the collaboration and conflict skills.
Clear rules and active conflict management
The series will kick off on 24 March 2025 with a keynote speech by Claudia Peus from the Technical University of Munich. The professor of research and science management focuses in particular on the topics of leadership, leadership development in the digital age and diversity in organisations.
Science thrives on discourse and constructive controversy. A fascination with the topic at hand is a crucial factor for good collaboration – at the same time, this does not happen ‘on its own’. To achieve this, it is necessary to actively shape the cooperation, be clear about the scope and rules of the game, and actively manage conflicts. The team leader has a crucial role to play in this. Claudia Peus will shed light on the dimension of this responsibility in her presentation.
