AEM Websites
The CC web team can help you with questions about user-friendliness, accessibility and content layout.
Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) is the official web content management system (WCMS) of ETH Zurich.
All official administrative websites and the websites of the 16 departments must be built in accordance with ETH guidelines in AEM and in the corporate design.
Institutes, professorships and competence centres are not required to use the AEM content management system, but are encouraged to do so for the following reasons:
- This contributes to building a strong ETH brand and conveying a consistent image
- Similar functionality fosters familiarity and improves user-friendliness
- Accessibility guidelines can be more easily met
- The support of the CC web team and IT Services is guaranteed.
Web content maintenance is decentralised at ETH Zurich. This means each organisational unit is responsible for the content of their own websites and for updating them.
Guidelines for receiving an AEM website
As a general guideline, AEM websites can only be issued for:
- Official units as defined in the ETH organizational database
- Official study programms
- Conferences where ETH is in the lead
Project websites are only issued for those where a website is required by the grant funding the project and will have 'Project:' added to the site name for clarification of website type. All other project information should remain on a research group's official website.
For other website needs, IT Services offers Wordpress for ETH members. See minimum guidelines for external websites.
Reasons for choosing AEM:
- AEM offers a user-friendly interface, a large selection of components and a simple “drag & drop” function, making it easy to place components on a page.
- It also features an integrated Asset Manager (DAM) for saving and managing digital content, especially media files such as images, graphics and PDFs. The DAM makes digital content easy to find, share, replace and publish.
- If you work with AEM, you can get support from CC and ID if you have any technical issues, content-related questions or any general enquiries.
Guidelines for ETH websites outside of AEM
Although we recommend AEM, institutes, professorships and competence centres are free to choose an alternative solution. If they do so, they must comply with a few guidelines:
- The ETH Zurich short logo must appear in the top-left corner of the website and should link to the main ETHZ website. The correct logo (size and design) can be requested from Corporate Communications at .
- An imprint page is required by Swiss law.
- A contact page is also required.
